Cartoon and Animation at IKU

If you want to discover the new opportunities offered by art and technology, develop your skills through a creative and disciplined education process, and design your own world in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) universes, Istanbul Kültür University's Department of Cartoon and Animation may be the right choice for you.

Cartoon and Animation is a contemporary form of expression that lies at the intersection of cinema, design, visual communication, and digital technologies. Today, it is not limited to animated films but is used in many areas such as advertising, games, new media, social platforms, and interactive content production. Department of Cartoon and Animation offers a comprehensive educational approach centered on this multidisciplinary structure.
What is the Educational Program Like?

The foundation of IKU Cartoon and Animation education is based on providing students with an educational package that integrates theoretical knowledge with practice in today's rapidly changing communication environments and technological opportunities. In courses taught by experienced academics and industry professionals, students are encouraged to develop a multidimensional way of thinking, the ability to analyze and synthesize, and a critical and creative perspective.

The department's program includes courses that directly prepare students for their profession, such as:

  • character design,
  • classical and digital animation techniques,
  • 2D and 3D animation,
  • visual design, illustration, and graphics,
  • storyboarding, sound, effects, and post-production.

Throughout the education process, students experience all stages of creative projects, from the idea stage to production, presentation, sharing, and marketing, through hands-on experience.

Technology, Project, and Internship-Focused Education

In the Department of Cartoon and Animation, digital media and multimedia components (Blender, 3D Max, After Effects, etc.) are taught in line with contemporary production practices; the aim is for students to use technology not only as a tool but as an integral part of creative thinking.

The program is supported by a project and internship-focused structure, enabling students to become acquainted with the industry at an early stage. Through workshop-based courses and internship applications, students have the opportunity to experience professional workflows and build portfolios before graduation.

IKU's Department of Cartoon and Animation is dedicated to educating creative thinkers with aesthetic and critical insight. We empower our students to master technology and produce high-quality work for both national and international platforms.
